Reporting to the Transit Technology Engineer, the Laborer (Electrical) is responsible for assisting with the over-all installation and maintenance of various electronic systems and equipment in buses.

Primary duties include

• Install Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) tablets and associated peripherals in buses including mobile ticketing validators and verify that tablets are active.
• Coordinate availability and movement of vehicles for installation work.
• Assist with coordinating and conducting final performance testing of in-vehicle equipment.
• Monitor, support and maintain MDT tablets and equipment in buses.
• Identify and report software/hardware problems of vehicle equipment.
• Test, troubleshoot and/or replacement of failed vehicle equipment.
• Create and close service tickets using internal Calgary Transit (CT) ticketing system.
• Complete software and firmware upgrades/updates and configuration of system equipment in buses.
• Manage spare parts inventory, Return Material Authorization, tracking parts returned for repair/replacement, tracking hardware versions and maintaining vehicle equipment installation procedures and locations.
• Respond to urgent requests for support.
• Assist with developing reports to meet CT user needs (e.g., monthly reporting of system equipment maintenance activities and failure statistics).
• Support decommissioning of old buses and commissioning of new buses (i.e., removing and installing electronics and equipment).
• Maintain workshop equipment, tools and work areas to be clean, safe and in good working condition, ensuring safety precautions are in place.

• Qualifications

• At least 12 months’ related experience, including electronic testing procedures, is strongly preferred.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
• Preference will be given to those with high school education or equivalency (G.E.D.).
• Some knowledge of blueprints, schematics and a variety of electronic test equipment is strongly preferred.
• Experience with aftermarket installation of equipment on vehicles is strongly preferred.
• The ability to use machinery, equipment, and basic hand tools (crimpers, stripers) is an asset.
• Electronics knowledge and technical/mechanical aptitude would be considered an asset.
• Computer skills, knowledge of Networking Systems and utilities would be considered an asset.
• Success in this position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, political and public sensitivity, public dealing, ability to collaborate in a team environment.
• The ability to resolve issues and follow procedures with minimal supervision.
• Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
