The University of Idaho is currently looking for a farm assistant to join their team in Newdale, ID 83436, USA! This is a full-time classified position located at the Tetonia Research and Extension Center, which is responsible for seed production for the Idaho Foundation Seed Program. Responsibilities of Farm Assistant:
- Operate various farm equipment throughout the year.
- Manage greenhouse operations, including plant growth and maintenance.
- Prepare seeds for sale and shipping.
- Assist with research projects on cereal grains and potatoes.
- Conduct minor repairs on farm equipment.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Eligibility Requirements for Farm Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in agricultural crop production.
- Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment.
- Experience using electrical and hand-operated shop tools.
- Ability to work safely according to established protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet University of Idaho requirements for driving university vehicles.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including overtime.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate degree in an agricultural field.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems for agricultural crops.
- Knowledge of farm chemicals and their safe application (or willingness to obtain a Private Applicator’s License within 6 months).
- Previous farm experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, carry, or move objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in a variety of conditions, including:
- Dusty environments
- Extreme temperatures (outdoors)
- Varied building temperatures
